“I’m Thankful That God Is a Promise Keeper” –Physician and Content Creator, Tashinea Bernadin on Her Infertility Journey
The infertility journey is like navigating a stormy sea, where waves of emotion can crash over you at any moment. But by tending to your emotional needs, you can be the captain of your ship and steer yourself to calmer waters.
Trying hard to conceive and yet being unsuccessful repeatedly creates an intense and, at times, overwhelming range of emotions, all of which have a tremendous effect on one’s well-being. Dr. Tashinea Bernadin – content creator, influencers, and renowned physician – went through 5 tiresome years of trying to conceive, 3 IUIs, painful injections, and one IVF cycle.
In December of 2015, Tashinea got married and, one year later, at age 30, decided to start a family with her husband. Unfortunately, she struggled to get pregnant and went through 3 IUIs, which did not work. But even in the face of hopelessness and disillusionment, she went ahead to half-heartedly pursue IVF. Because the whole process was overwhelming for her, she decided to record her journey for all the women going through the same phase to help make room for relationality through the tough experience.
While everyone’s IVF journey is unique, many people experience similar feelings as they move through the stages of treatment. Dr. Tashinea’s journey through IVF started with her feeling anxious and wanting to throw up the entire time. The hardest part of the IVF procedure was for her to remain positive while dealing with failures. Hope and despair are both natural parts of IVF experiences for many people, especially when you want something very badly – the thought of failure can then be overwhelming.
She approached the IVF process with unwavering faith, despite the possibility of failed attempts along the way. With a heart full of hope and a deep understanding that failure did not define her ability to conceive, she had a heartfelt conversation with God. Her belief that speaking and manifesting her dreams would ultimately bring them to fruition filled her with determination. With a positive outlook and the power of manifestation, Tashinea knew that she would carry her own child and become a mother.
Tashinea’s videos on her YouTube channel about the IVF journey show that she felt like she could not cope with everything at once. Her emotions seemed to fluctuate throughout the treatment cycle. At one point, she even lost confidence in her capacity to bear another loss because of the sense of helplessness surrounding her. Despite everything, she permitted herself to feel that way and curated a path through the overpowering feelings. Because people’s expectations to be positive, motivated, and assertive didn’t leave any room for the reality she was experiencing, she realized to reconcile through sustained reflection and gratitude.
If there is one thing that Dr. Tashinea wants all the women to remember, it is that they are stronger than they think. Whoever is going through an IVF journey is an IVF warrior. All this was worth it in the end. The unrivaled joy of motherhood is an incomparable feeling that made her forget her struggles instantly. She went through all of it for her daughter, Amira Nayeli Bernadin – who is one of the most important reasons why she does what she does. Motherhood made her believe that God never fails in his promises. Even if it is late, it will surely come to pass – and that sometimes delays are meant for one’s own good.
