Should a number on a scale matter so much if you feel mentally and physically healthy? The answer to this question will always be no. Instead of setting goals for weight loss and achieving your ideal body type, you should set goals for the improvement of your health and the rest will come when the body is healed. Amber Wentworth, a life and nutrition coach, provides the following tips to achieve a truly healthy lifestyle:
Resolve Past Trauma
If you don’t get to the root of the problem, you can never find a complete solution for it. This is why the first step should be to focus on any unresolved issues or past trauma that you think affected your relationship with your body. For Amber Wentworth, this event was the bullying and shaming she went through at the age of 10 just because she was developing quicker than the other girls in her school. She started hating herself after constantly being reminded of how undesirable her body is. It wasn’t until 40 years later, she became aware of what a truly healthy person should look and feel like, that she stopped running towards weight loss and dieting by focusing on other aspects of a healthy lifestyle.
Ignore societal standards
Society currently runs on a broken system that dictates what is healthy and what is not, how you should look like, and how to achieve the desired look. We cannot continue to allow big corporations to decide our lifestyle and need to take back our control. It is important to accept the fact that something that we are told is healthy by others, may not work in the same way for us. We are unique and have specific needs. Amber wants to reach as many people as possible and spread this awareness so the culture of blindly following diets that promise weight loss without focusing on health can be removed from society.
Fulfill your body requirements
Everyone has unique experiences and body requirements which is why the same diet cannot suit every single person. Amber shares her disappointment with diets that failed to address her hormones and hunger which is why it was easy for her to lose weight but she was never able to maintain that weight loss. Zero focus on health. Only the scale. The only diets that were able to balance her hormones and address her hunger were the keto and carnivore diets that she speaks so highly of on her platforms. She says, “ My health – mental, physical, and emotional – improved dramatically. I was literally a new person.” She could not keep this life-changing information to herself and made it her goal to help others so they don’t have to suffer as long as she did.
Therefore, it is true that a healthy state of mind leads to a healthy body. Diet is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle as well, as long as it ensures that the nutritional needs of your body are being fulfilled.
