5 Starr Enterprise was founded by Kendrick Tilghman who was born and raised in Baltimore. The Vision is to be the premier resource for STEM workforce diversity. The Mission is to be the pipeline from engagement to employment, PHD’s or Social Entrepreneurs. The focus of community outreach, educational services and community engagement. His passion is to provide community engagement services which include a master of ceremony and entertainment & marketing/media consulting. His company also provides IT training and support to new and small businesses. What truly sets 5 Starr Enterprise apart is the unique brand ideology.
Having his own company allowed him to be innovative and follow his heart. Being an educationist and having a degree in Computer and Engineering compelled him to do something that would include both of his passions; Engineering and DJing. That is how the idea of STEM education and its awareness using the science of DJing came into being and the company revolutionized edutainment and DJ business.
“Have you ever heard of a DJ try to blend two records that just didn’t mathematically add up to blend together and it sounds like a train wreck? So what we try to do is apply those few math principles to the processes of DJin, that DJ wouldn’t train wreck.”
Kendrick’s company provides one-of-a-kind educational services that mix the art of DJing with mathematical applications and coding. For K-20, a product called Math Thru Music is designed to teach DJing using mathematical principles. There is also another innovative product promoted by the company called JayD which is a coding kit for DJing.
The true success of Kendrick and his business lies in the revolution it has managed to create in edutainment. Especially at times like the pandemic, when students are not being engaged with traditional learning through zoom, something interactive like media masters is amazingly unique and successful in engaging students and promoting learning in a fun manner.
Apart from being a pioneer of edutainment, Kendrick also promotes diversity in the workforce, and his struggle to promote STEM education in African American community and other marginalized communities speaks volumes. He aspires to see more Black, Latinos, and other minority groups in areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. America is currently suffering from a lack of diversity in the workforce and Kendrick aims to change that as he firmly believes that research and development can never be possible without equal representation of all groups of people.
