In January 2020, H Due celebrated and welcomed the arrival of another family member into their home. Initially housing little Doodles, Jelly, and Matilda, H introduced Nora to their little but growing family. Formerly known as Lady in the Fur Coat, the earless cat stole H’s heart and became the subject of the Instagram page. H was smitten with this earless cat and made their first post on @Nora.no.ears dedicated to her soon after. Since then, Nora’s Instagram has gained more than 36,000 followers, and they continue to grow to this date.
Nora, a former stray tabby cat, was born with an ear infection that affected her hearing. Luckily, the condition only appeared to crumple the pinnae (or outer ears). In contrast, the left ear canal and eardrums were unaffected. Her head was shaved off to perform surgery, which earned her the name Lady in the Fur Coat in the Dane County Humane Society. The chronic infection and hematomas led to the removal of Nora’s ear flaps, leaving her hearing unaffected and without visible ears.
Since receiving Lady in 2020, H has come a long way with their precious little earless cat. Changing the name from Lady to Nora was purely to complement the title, ‘No Ears.’ Nora settled in well with H’s other pets and soon became a loved and admired family member. Her admiration for her siblings grew, which included one-eyed Jelly, three-legged Matilda and Ramona, and distant Doodles.
@Nora.no.ears gained recognition even before H started posting regularly on the Instagram page. When DCHS posted about Nora’s adoption, everyone on Facebook began to swoon over her purple crocheted ears. The Kelly Clarkson Show gushed over Nora’s adoption, and Bored Panda made an entire post detailing her recovery journey.
However, this was just the beginning. Soon H was booked with numerous interviews and calls about their life with Nora. In an interview with Cattitude Daily, they relay Nora’s routine; sleeping 23 hours a day, snuggling with their two dogs, and making biscuits.
H, an experienced veterinary technician, knows well regarding the ‘whats’ and ‘hows’ of pet care. They have spent valuable time at a general practice and have always been particularly fascinated by senior pets or animals with disabilities. When they got Nora, they made sure to cater to her needs and provide her with the love and care she had been deprived of her whole life. H wants to utilize Nora’s fame positively, motivating more people to adopt senior pets and give them a home they truly deserve. “I think in general, people think that pets that look different can’t have good lives, but I assure you, Nora is living her best life,” stated H in an interview with Meow.af. Follow Nora’s Instagram page and see how their relationship continues to blossom and flourish.
